I was buying Shiseido makeup one time, and the sales person commented that my lips had a lot of lines in them for my age and she recommended that I use the Shiseido Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment to rid myself of the lines. I was a little hesitant given it’s their anti-wrinkle line, isn’t it too early for my lips? The sales lady (who looked like she was in her mid-20s):
1. assured me it was fine, and that it was never too early to start
2. told me she swears by the benefits of this product
3. told me she uses this lip treatment herself on a daily basis
So, with a curious heart, I swiped my credit card and decided to try it out.
From the description, it can be used under or over lipstick and it works to prevent wrinkles while plumping lips for a smoother texture. The packaging is simple and unassuming, and looks a lot like any other tube of lip balm.
The formula is very thick (probably one of the thickest lip treatments I have come across to date) but not sticky. It took me a little bit to get used to its plumping effects. As the lip treatment is so thick, it keeps my lips moist and non sticky. It is also quite shiny and could work well as a lip gloss, with the slightest methanol taste. I’m not a huge fan of lip plumpers, but Shiseido’s Benefiance Lip Treatment does have a very subtle and nice plumping effect.
I’ve been using it at evenings prior to bed for the past 7 months and in my opinion, I haven’t seen a significant improvement in the way my lips look. This may be in part due to my relative youth and my lip wrinkles that result due to the shape of my mouth naturally. Given as such, $35-40 is quite expensive for something that works very well as a moisturizing lip balm. However, I suppose if one were to use anti-aging products on their face, why not on the lips as well?
It could potentially be a nice splurge – if my wallet had no other competing priorities!
