As much as I use drug store brand varieties for everyday use, I also believe in pampering myself and going for something nicer once in a while. For the past few years, I have been using Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 in Cranberry to moisturize my lips when I go out. The product is clear and sold in tubes. What I particularly like about it, other than the mildly sweet cranberry flavour, is that it has a slight gloss and sheen to it without the stickiness and of a lip gloss. It also contains SPF 4 (though I wonder if that slight bit of sunscreen would even make a difference). In my opinion, the product is great because the moisture lasts for hours.
The only downside is that it is essentially overpriced flavoured petroleum jelly, and ranging from $9-11 per tube, it is not cheap. It melts on hot summer days, and furthermore, an applicator does not exist so you have to use your fingers to put it on.
I could technically go to the drugstore and buy a vaseline brand lip balm for a fraction of the price, but given a tube can last 3-4 months or more and the fact that I don’t spend too much on my other daily products, I think it is justifiable to treat yourself once in a while. Plus, even with the cons, the product works really well for dry lips.
In my opinion, having a nice lipbalm can make a bad day just a little bit better.
