A few years ago, I was at a L’Oreal warehouse sale to my delight included Kiehl’s. At that point in my life, I’d never used Kiehl’s before. I didn’t know much about it, it tended to be pricey for a student, and their plain packaging threw me off (how do you know what’s what inside the store?). Since the prices were significantly discounted, I decided to try my luck and picked up Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream +.
From Kiehl’s product description:
This skin-age deterrent is made with naturally-derived ingredients and is formulated to help reduce the signs of aging and help skin protect itself from external damage. Abyssine, a survival molecule which thrives under the extreme conditions in hydrothermal ocean vents, helps soothe and protect skin. Combined with Corallina Extract, sourced from a mineral-rich red algae with self-defensive properties, our formula helps minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while defending skin from free radical damage with antioxidants
The jar was a little unassuming to say the least, though surprising I liked the consistency of the formula. Upon application, I could feel the moisture right away and it absorbs well quickly. The cream is thick enough to be used in cold dry winters, and there is a lighter version for the summer with the Abyssine lotion with SPF 15. It is lightly scented, but in a good way. I’ve heard that some people got rashes with this cream, but I have sensitive skin and I was fine.
The only issue I have is whether this cream really works to counter wrinkles. The salesperson at Kiehl’s had recommended this cream to be used to for early signs of aging, meaning those in their 20s to mid-30s. I didn’t see a noticeable difference in minimizing any fine lines upon finishing the jar.
Overall, it works well as a basic winter moisturizer even if it’s on the pricier side. For my anti-wrinkle needs, I went off to try different brands.
